welcome to 'the five' -- a roundup/highlight of various things i found interesting this week.
health/medicine
this image and quote posted to @humansofny sparked a great conversation within the medical community in december. i didn't comment on it back then, but i find it heartbreaking that students continue to suffer through these traumatizing "educational" experiences. i count myself as lucky to have had wonderfully supportive residents and attendings during the gauntlet that is the third year of medical school. i was never kicked out of an OR or demeaned publicly, but i know people who have been and it's not ok. as i move forward in training, i am looking forward to trying to be like the residents who inspired me and motivated me and made me feel like part of the team. i'll always be grateful to the residents and attendings who taught me to be empathic instead of apathetic, even during some of the hardest times of training.
beauty/fashion/sales
be on the look out for an onslaught of clothing, tech, home decor and more in the color "Living Coral," Pantone's 2019 Color of the Year.
Pantone started announcing a Color of a Year in 2000. According to the Pantone website, "Living Coral" is an "animating and life-affirming coral hue with a golden undertone that energizes and enlivens with a softer edge."
